PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR POSITION ON THE ROLE OF PUBLIC GREEN SPACES WITHIN OUR COMMUNITIES.

Lower Manhattan has historically been lacking in public green spaces compared to communities elsewhere in the city. I believe it is vital that our children and families have free access to parks and open space and am proud to have fought throughout my career to protect and expand Hudson River Park. I have been a supporter of Elizabeth Street Garden - contributed to it's legal fund, testified in support and advocated for it to city officials.

PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR POSITION ON HOW THE CITY PRIORITIZES PUBLIC OPEN GREEN SPACE AND HOW COMMUNITY GARDENS ARE OFTEN PITTED AGAINST THE NEED FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING.

The city has deprioritzed public green space in recent years, and has an unfortunate history of unnecessarily pitting good use against good use. The reality is, especially in the case of Elizabeth Street Garden, it is a false choice between affordable housing and public open space. The city consistently violates its own requirement for open space - gives away land to developers and cheats New Yorkers of the respite space they so desperately need.

HAVE YOU EVER VISITED ELIZABETH STREET GARDEN? IF SO, PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR EXPERIENCE.

Yes, I found Elizabeth Street Garden to be a peaceful oasis in a neighborhood that has a limited number of green spaces. Visitors were enjoying the scenic place to sit, work, and have a coffee while some of the younger cohort were enjoying the sculptures and artwork. The various special events are wildly popular and attract people from all over the area.

WHAT IS YOUR POSITION ON THE ALTERNATIVE SITE SOLUTION THAT WOULD USE 388 HUDSON — A GRAVEL- FILLED, CITY-OWNED LOT — TO PROVIDE UP TO 5X THE AMOUNT OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND ADDITIONAL PUBLIC OPEN SPACE WHILE SAVING ELIZABETH STREET GARDEN?

I personally asked Mayor DeBlasio for the land swap and got very little positive response. I believe this would be the best case scenario for all involved. Using 388 Hudson would both allow Elizabeth Street Garden to continue serving the community, and lead to the creation of more affordable senior units than is currently slated.

ESG is currently involved in two lawsuits to save the garden. One to stop HPD's attempt to evict the garden and the other within State Supreme court led by attorney Norman Siegel. If the issue is not resolved before the change of office, once in office, how would you work with ESG to protect and preserve Elizabeth Street Garden?

I am proud to be a co-plantiff on these suits and will continue to work with Elizabeth Street Garden to help preserve this community space. I have met with leadership to reiterate my strong support and will work closely to preserve ESG.

If elected, would you support ESG's plan to save the garden as a Conservation Land Trust? Please take a moment to review ESG's future plans for saving the garden as a Conservation Land Trust here: https://www.elizabethstreetgarden.com/clt
